Scratching The SurfacE
Join us for a one day workshop with Stan Irvin! The focus will be on the following surface decoration techniques - Sgraffito, Mishima, and Inlay.
These techniques rely on carving into leather hard clay. Carving tools are very important to the process so we will spend some time making small loop tools for carving into leather hard clay. Materials for this will be provided for those who wish to make their own tools using simple hand tools and readily available materials (also provided).
Workshop attendees are asked to have at least one leather hard or bone dry form to decorate. Some pre-made forms will also be available for students to practice on in case you don't have the opportunity to make one prior to the workshop. Forms should be simple (cylinders, spheres, shallow bowls, etc). The surface should be smooth in preparation for surface carving. A clay body (high fire or low fire) with very little or no grog is preferred.
Reserve your spot today, this popular workshop will sell out fast!
